Prince Edward Island's minimum wage will increase to $13 per hour on April 1, 2021, according to a release from the province.

P.E.I.'s minimum wage will increase by 60 cents to $12.85 per hour on April 1, 2020.

Minimum wage 'far too low' to support a family in Charlottetown: study

The minimum wage on P.E.I. would come up well short of providing a family in Charlottetown with a living wage, a report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives concludes.

The study calculated the cost of a variety of family expenses and found a living wage in Charlottetown to be $19.30 an hour.

This marks an increase of 15 cents, up from $12.85. The increase announced Tuesday is lower than the increase announced at the same time last year, 

Trainor Street development being reconsidered after resident concerns

Charlottetown residents living near a proposed development on Trainor Street were successful in getting city council to reconsider the project.

Residents from the area have had meetings and staged demonstrations outside city hall asking for the Trainor Street development to be looked at again.

P.E.I. aiming to start COVID-19 vaccinations in early 2021

In wake of promising news from Pfizer this week about its COVID-19 vaccine trials, the P.E.I. government is making plans to be vaccinating Islanders early next year.

While it is promising, the Pfizer vaccine is still a long way from approval.

The increase announced Tuesday is lower than the increase announced at the same time last year, which was a 60-cent increase.
