The Trans-Canada Highway just east of Reeves Boulevard in Stratford, P.E.I., is closed after a Jeep Cherokee caught on fire.
RCMP say the closure should last one to two hours. Motorists can detour around Mount Herbert or Alexandra.
Witnesses reported hearing small explosions as firefighters from the Crossroads Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire at about 7:15 p.m.
RCMP Const. Laurie Boutilier said a woman and her daughter were returning from Montague when the lights in the vehicle began flashing. They pulled over and got out safely before the vehicle caught fire, Boutilier said.
