Extension will allow businesses to maximize patio season, city says
Waterloo city council has agreed to allow businesses to keep their outdoor and sidewalk patios open longer.
Council voted Monday night to extend the Support our Local Economic Recovery (SOLER) initiative and the uptown side walk patio program to January 2022. The move will allow patios to remain open until snow clearing of sidewalks starts.
The programs allow for outdoors patios city-wide and expanded sidewalk patios in the uptown area. It was initially launched to support businesses through the pandemic.
Uptown sidewalk patio licenses were originally set to expire Oct. 15, while the SOLER program was set to expire at the end of 2020.
So far this year, the city has issued 24 SOLER licenses and approved six uptown sidewalk patios, according to the release.
