Police not responsible for airport death: SIU

Ottawa police were not responsible for the death of a man at the Ottawa International Airport last summer, an independent civilian agency has ruled.
Stephane Michaud, 43, had just arrived on a flight from Halifax in June 2005 when he began yelling and acting strangely, according to witnesses.
Michaud lost consciousness after he was subdued by airport staff and handcuffed by police. He was later pronounced dead at hospital.
An autopsy did not reveal the cause of death.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit made the ruling Thursday. The SIU investigates incidents involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
An inquest has been called into Michaud's death.
