The Toronto Raptors made history last year when they won their first NBA championship title, and this year, as they begin to defend that title, singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez achieved a historical feat of her own.
The Toronto artist became the first person to ever perform the American and Canadian national anthems atop the city's tallest landmark, the CN Tower. Doing it from the tower's famous Edgewalk, Reyez, who was taking a knee and wearing a Breonna Taylor neck gaiter, kicked off Monday afternoon's game with her performance, which you can watch below.

Reyez released her debut full-length album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, this year. That album is now up for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. Her last release, 2018's Being Human in Public EP, earned Reyez her first Grammy nomination for best urban contemporary album.
