The search for 73-year-old John Shannahan of Dartmouth, N.S., has wrapped up after he walked out of the woods on Thursday and met up with searchers,&nbsp;RCMP&nbsp;said today.

Police sent out a news release about Shannahan being found around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.&nbsp;

The RCMP&nbsp;said&nbsp;Shannahan&nbsp;was safe and unharmed after his night in the woods.&nbsp;He went missing while picking blueberries yesterday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shannahan was separated from his friend around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday&nbsp;in an area south of Highway 107 near Lake Echo.

The RCMP, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, Halifax Regional Police's K-9 unit, as well as Halifax Search and Rescue, all took part in the search.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A 20-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being shot in the back at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Dartmouth early this morning, said Halifax Regional Police. 

Police were still at the shooting scene early Thursday morning.

Nova Scotia paramedics say calls increasing after pandemic lull

The union representing paramedics in Nova Scotia says it has started a social media campaign to highlight the number of shifts going unfilled and the number of ambulances out of service daily due to increased call volumes now that the initial wave of COVID-19 has subsided.

Pictou County residents worry they could permanently lose detox unit

It's been four months since the detox unit in Pictou, N.S., closed due to COVID-19. Community advocates worry they could permanently lose the much-needed service after a potential reopen date came and went.

The 73 substance use treatment beds coming to Interior Health facilities are part of a provincial initiative to add 500 additional substance use spaces throughout B.C. by 2017.
