Province recorded 79 news cases on Sunday, Health Minister Christine Elliott
Ontario reported 79 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, which means the province has had a full week of fewer than 100 cases each day.
Sunday's numbers bring the province to a cumulative total of 40,046 cases since the pandemic began in January.
The number of active cases continues to decline with another 148 marked as resolved, Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet. The province's total number of resolved cases now sits 36,279.
Elliott said 30 of the province's 34 health units recorded less than 5 cases each. Eighteen in all have reported zero new cases.
The public health units that are reporting more than five cases each include:
- Ottawa Public Health, with 6 cases.
- Peel Public Health, with 17 cases.
- York Region Public Health, with 9 cases.
- Toronto Public Health, with 25 cases.
Notably, Windsor-Essex only reported four new cases on Saturday and three on Friday.
Windsor-Essex has struggled with outbreaks in its farming industry but has had several days of low numbers. The region is the last in Ontario to be in Stage 2 of the province's COVID-19 recovery plan.
Most of Sunday's cases are among those aged 20 to 39, with 32 confirmed cases. This age group has seen higher numbers as Ontario has entered its reopening stages, but the province's daily epidemiological survey shows people 40 to 59 years of age are recording only slightly fewer numbers than younger people, with 27 confirmed cases.
An additional two deaths were also reported, bringing the province's total number to 2,786.
Ontario's network of labs processed nearly 28,000 tests on Saturday.
