COVID-19 in Sask: 8 new cases in far north region reported Friday

5 cases in La Loche area, 3 in Beauval area
Eight more cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Saskatchewan on Friday, all of them are in the far north region.
Five cases are in the La Loche area and three are in the Beauval area, according to a provincial news release. The overall number of cases reported in the province has risen to 590, with 176 of them considered active.
There have been 408 recoveries in total. Ten more people were announced to have recovered Friday. Six people have died since the virus was first found in the province.
The province released a public service announcement Thursday, advising people in Saskatoon and the La Ronge area to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 if they had been to certain businesses during specified times:
- Fire Creek Gas Station in Saskatoon – May 4.
- Co-Op Gas Bar, La Ronge - May 4 to 11.
- Robertson Store, La Ronge - May 11.
- Keethanow Supermarket, La Ronge - May 5 to 8.
- Keethanow Gas Bar, La Ronge – May 4.
- Craving Restaurant, La Ronge - May 1 to 9.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, headache, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose and/or a diminished sense of smell or taste.
People are advised to immediately self-isolate and call the 811 line if they develop symptoms.
There are 147 active cases in the far north region, 18 in the north region, nine in the Saskatoon area, one in the central region and one in Regina.
There have been 218 cases in the far north region overall, along with 106 cases in the north region, 163 in the Saskatoon area, 76 in the Regina area, 15 in the southern region and 12 in the central region.
The province has traced 139 cases to travel, linked another 304 to community contacts or mass gatherings and is investigating 79 others. There are 68 cases with no known exposure.
The province has conducted 39,233 as of May 15, after 505 more tests were processed in the last day.
