Man facing charges after loaded handgun seized in Summerside business search

Man also charged with possession of cocaine for purpose of trafficking
Police in Summerside, P.E.I., say they seized a loaded 9-mm handgun during a search of a Summer Street business Friday.
Summerside's major crime unit had been investigating the weapons-related activity of a man connected to the business.
In addition to the handgun, police said they found a significant quantity of cocaine.
A 47-year-old man is facing 12 charges, including:
- Unauthorized possession of a handgun.
- Violating a weapons prohibition by possessing the handgun.
- Violating a weapons prohibition by possessing ammunition.
- Possession of a loaded, restricted firearm.
- Careless storage of a firearm.
- Unlicensed possession of a firearm.
- Possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
From a separate incident, the man faces charges of assault, mischief and uttering threats.
Prince District Joint Forces drug section assisted in the investigation.
The man was taken into custody. He is due back in court May 7.
