There is one new case of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador Sunday.

In a news release, the provincial government said the new case is in the Eastern Health region.

The new case brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the province to 242. Of those cases, 227 are in the Eastern Health region.

There are eight cases in the Central Health region, one case in the Western Health region and six in the Labrador-Grenfell Health region.

Seven people are in hospital. Three people are in intensive care, up from two people Saturday, and 129 people have now recovered from the virus.

Since Monday, the province has reported an average of more than 170 new tests per day, but that number dipped over the Easter weekend. In all, 4,812 people have been tested for the virus, an increase of 86 tests from Saturday.

Three people have died in the province.

Sunday is the seventh straight day the increase in the number of cases is in the single digits. There have been 25 new cases reported over those seven days — seven fewer than the peak of the Caul's Funeral Home cluster on March 25, when 32 cases were reported that one day.

It is also the second day that the number of recovered cases is larger than active ones. Active cases include the total number of cases, minus those who have recovered and those who have died.

The province's daily briefings will resume again Monday, after a three-day hiatus for the Easter holiday.

Along with the ringing of church bells on Easter Sunday to show support for front line workers during the pandemic, Confederation Building will be lit in yellow Sunday to thank essential workers for their service.

"I thank you for your dedication and resiliency," Premier Dwight Ball said in a news release Sunday.

"You are providing safety, stability and comfort at a time when nothing is ordinary. Please accept my sincere gratitude."

Ball also spoke to the people of the province in the release, encouraging people to continue physical distancing practices to help those working on the front line.
