Teen Challenge, a Christian-based group that was trying to open a drug and alcohol rehab centre in the province, says it is giving up.
In a release, spokesperson Dan Morand says after two years of trying and failing, the group has dropped its plans to open a rehab centre in Newfoundland.
Teen Challenge first tried to open a centre in Manuels, but backed off after running into stiff opposition from potential neighbours.
A similar scenario played out in Glenwood.

Now, Teen Challenge says it has abandoned plans to locate a facility in Gander.
While there was no opposition from people in Gander, the group could not reach an agreement to buy the former youth assessment centre from the provincial government.
