It is going to feel like spring in Waterloo region and area this weekend with sunshine and warmer temperatures(external link).
There is also plenty to do. You can mark International Women's Day with several events including checking out the Collectively Empowered art exhibition(external link), where artist Elfie Kalfakis, known by her moniker "White Owl Mystic," created multimedia installations that will be on display at various women-owned businesses.
The Femme Folk Festival(external link) is also on with everything from spoken word to theatre, music to workshops.
HerStory(external link) also opens at McDougall Cottage on Friday. The exhibit looks at what life was life for Victorian women in Waterloo region. And on Saturday there's a feminist pop-up market(external link) at CIGI in Waterloo.
Take in a talk about public art(external link) on Saturday morning in Waterloo and if you're looking for a good meal out at a restaurant, Winter Hespelerlicious(external link) is on with restaurants in Hespeler offering three-course fixed price menus.

Shiverfest

6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 7
Central Frederick Neighborhood, start at 324 Frederick St, Kitchener
This new festival will feature lantern making, a walk around the neighbourhood and light installations. There are 12 homes with artists' work. Be sure to dress for the cooler evening temperatures as the event is outdoors.

Paper Bag Princess Day

10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, March 7
Guelph Public Library, 100 Norfolk St. Guelph
Celebrate the 40th anniversary of this beloved Canadian children's classic with interactive story time at the library and other fun activities.
Other local bookstores are also marking the day with special events, so be sure to check out your favourite shop.

Repair Café

EcoCafé, 1441 King St. N., St. Jacobs
Don't throw out your favourite shirt because it's missing a button. And maybe your sewing machine can be fixed easily. Bring it to the repair café so handy folks can have a look at it and see if they can mend it.
This café is held in partnership with 4RepairKW. Registration required.

An afternoon with author Genevieve Graham

3 p.m. start, Sunday, March 8
Idea Exchange, Queen's Square, 1 North Square, Cambridge
Graham will talk about her latest book The Forgotten Home Child. There will also be a signing as well as coffee and treats. Graham has also penned Tides of Honour, Promises to Keep, Come From Away, and At the Mountain's Edge.

KW Titans vs. St. John's Edge

7 p.m. tipoff
The Aud, 400 East Ave., Kitchener
Take in some local basketball action and cheer for the Titans as they take on the Edge. It's also "stuff a Hummer" tonight, so bring along donations to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
Can't make Saturday night's game? There's also a game Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Halifax Hurricanes.
