The price of gasoline and furnace oil fell again Friday after two weeks of increases.

Prices for gas and heating oil had been falling since the start of the year, but bumped up in weekly adjustments from the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission on Feb. 14 and 21.

They fell significantly this week, with the heating oil price down five cents to $0.872/litre, the lowest price of the year. The minimum price for regular, self-serve gasoline dropped 4.1 cents, to $1.114.

Diesel was down also down five cents, to a minimum price of $1.149/litre.

The price for propane was up and down depending on the retailer, with mostly small changes.

Restrictions to protect whales pose hurdles, opportunities for cruise ship industry

With a record number of cruise ships slated to visit P.E.I, port managers in Charlottetown are bracing for uncertainty, after the federal government announced its shipping restrictions this coming season to protect endangered right whales.

P.E.I. Greens promise 'more vigorous opposition' when legislature resumes

The leader of the P.E.I. Greens says his party will provide more “vigourous opposition” when the legislature resumes in April, and indeed has already begun feeling its way toward a more confrontational approach to politics to counter criticism the party has been “very cozy” with government.

P.E.I. Premier Dennis King (left) and Opposition Leader Peter Bevan-Baker have been known to hug one another. Bevan-Baker used to be King's dentist. But the leader of the P.E.I. Green Party says his caucus will be more 'vigorous' in its opposition to King's minority PC government from now on. 

Heating oil prices on P.E.I. are the lowest they have been all year.
