Did you know that there's a growing trend of motor vehicle turtle fatalities? It's a problem the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre has been working tirelessly to address by bringing hundreds of these injured animals back from the brink of death each year.

Turtle #733 (a.k.a. "Spunky") was brought to the Centre with a major piece of her shell missing and her vital organs exposed, after being hit by a car on an Ontario highway. From the emergency room, to physiotherapy, to rehabilitation, the Centre's Executive and Medical Director Sue Carstairs and her team of volunteers have been overseeing Spunky's full recovery from spinal injuries and were even able to rescue the eggs growing inside her at the time of the crash.

The OTCC maintains a policy of identifying wildlife animals by a number system, but made an exception for turtle #733 after watching her heal and slowly gain her "spunk" back. She's becoming feisty and exhibiting all the characteristics of a healthy snapping turtle — a far cry from the condition she arrived in.
