Man charged after girl found in Yarmouth taxi with gunshot wounds

22-year-old charged with a number of weapons offences and criminal negligence causing bodily harm

A man has been charged after a 17-year-old girl was found in a taxi with serious gunshot wounds in Yarmouth, N.S., on Tuesday.
RCMP say the driver of the taxi had flagged down police on Tuesday evening out of concern for his passenger.
The teenager was found inside the vehicle with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.
The RCMP say the girl had been socializing with several people at a home on Cliff Street when she was shot.
Police believe the victim and suspect know each other.
A 22-year-old man from Yarmouth, N.S., was arrested at a home on Butler Street without incident on Wednesday.
He has been charged with:
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
The man was held in custody overnight and was scheduled to appear in Yarmouth provincial court on Thursday.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Lisa Croteau would not say how the victim ended up in the cab.
