Peter McQuaid, former president&nbsp;of&nbsp;P.E.I.'s Progressive Conservative Party, died peacefully at his home on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

During his career he also served as former premier Pat Binns' chief of staff.&nbsp;

McQuaid ran against Liberal&nbsp;MP Lawrence MacAulay in the 2004 federal election.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in&nbsp;Souris, on Thursday, Feb.&nbsp;6&nbsp;at 11:00 a.m.

P.E.I. firefighters heading for Australia

Two firefighters from P.E.I.’s Environment Department will leave for Australia later this week to help with wildfires there.

Ice around P.E.I. forming slower than last year, but 'things can change very quickly'

The ice is forming more slowly around Prince Edward Island than last year, but the Canadian Coast Guard says that could change very quickly.

The Coast Guard icebreaker Henry Larsen was busy this morning making a path through the ice in the Charlottetown Harbour.
