Four people have been treated for minor injuries after a school bus slid off a road in Fall River, N.S., Thursday morning.

The RCMP say the bus was carrying 23 students when the driver went off Fall River Road around 8:50 a.m.

Three students and the driver were treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed for a short time as police investigated.

Friend of slain Texas man speaks out about suspect's arrest in Halifax

A Texas woman says she's relieved the man accused of killing a close family friend was apprehended in Halifax last week. "I felt like I could exhale," said Debra Nizza.

Manitoba RCMP provided photos of a suspect wanted for murder in Texas who police say illegally crossed into Canada from the United States.

Derek Cameron Whisenand, 28, was arrested in Halifax on Dec. 30. He's wanted in connection with a Texas homicide and was believed to illegally be in Canada for about six months prior to his arrest.

Northern Pulp to mothball mill as it continues with environmental assessment process

Just weeks before the mill is scheduled to shut down, officials with Northern Pulp have informed the Nova Scotia government they plan to continue with the environmental assessment process for a proposed new effluent treatment facility.

The Northern Pulp mill in Abercrombie Point, N.S., is viewed from the causeway to Pictou, N.S., Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. The province had until Dec. 17 to decide whether or not to approve Northern Pulp's proposal for a new treatment facility that would pump treated effluent into the Northumberland Strait. The company's plan is to release up to 85 million litres of treated effluent daily into the fishing grounds of the Northumberland Strait.

While Northern Pulp is scheduled to shut down at the end of this month, the company is still pursuing the environmental assessment process for a proposed new effluent treatment facility.

The Nova Scotia government has awarded the construction management contract for the new building at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital site that will house the new emergency room, critical-care department and cancer centre.
