A body&nbsp;was discovered in a residence following a fire in Amherst on Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to an East Pleasant Street address at 3:30 a.m.

Amherst officials have not released the name or age of the dead person, but did say the person is male. A release from the town described the fire as suspicious.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Another suspicious fire, a brush fire,&nbsp;was reported earlier at 2:48 a.m. on Clarence Street.

Police arrested a man in connection with the brush fire. He is facing criminal charges.

Northern Pulp plans to shut down Nova Scotia mill after premier refuses to grant extension

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil has delivered a decision that could define his time in office — his government won't amend the Boat Harbour Act, forcing the impending closure of Northern Pulp's effluent facility by the end of January.

The Northern Pulp mill in Abercrombie Point, N.S., is viewed from the causeway to Pictou, N.S., Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. The province had until Dec. 17 to decide whether or not to approve Northern Pulp's proposal for a new treatment facility that would pump treated effluent into the Northumberland Strait. The company's plan is to release up to 85 million litres of treated effluent daily into the fishing grounds of the Northumberland Strait.
