The provincial fire marshal's office has finished its investigation into a 

 in Tignish, P.E.I., which caused significant damage.

Officials said the fire has been ruled&nbsp;accidental and&nbsp;was caused by an electrical fault in the basement.

In addition to extensive smoke and water damage in the home, officials said the&nbsp;kitchen was destroyed and the floor caved in.&nbsp;

The fire started in the basement where there was a lot of firewood and a wood-burning furnace, said Tignish fire Chief Allan Gavin.

Gavin said it took about four hours to get the fire under control because&nbsp;it was burning in the floor joists.

No people were injured in the fire.&nbsp;

P.E.I. government tables legislation to open adoption records

According to the legislation, adoptees could apply to receive the identities of their birth parents starting Jan. 31, 2021. Similarly on that date, birth parents could apply to receive a copy of their child's adoption record, including their adopted name.

The Ministry of Children and Family Development said in a statement it has connected directly with each family registered with Choices and is working hard to determine next steps.

Under proposed legislation, Island adoptees and their birth parents could apply to learn one another's identities starting in January 2021. The province is one of two whose adoption records are currently sealed.

Transgender Islanders could soon be able to access more health-care services in the province, according to P.E.I.'s health minister.
