The NDP garnered 35.8 per cent of the vote in 2015, compared to 33.4 per cent for the Liberals
It's a recent NDP stronghold riding with a historical reputation of close calls and swing-ing between orange, red and blue. Hamilton Mountain is currently orange under NDP MP Scott Duvall.
In 1988, the Liberals won against the NDP by fewer than a hundred votes. Only 3,000 votes separated the first and third-place finishers in the 2004 election, resulting in a narrow Liberal victory.
Following the Liberal Party's decrease in popularity in the late 2000s, the Conservatives became the main competitors to the NDPin the riding.
Description: Hamilton Mountain is home to contrasting socio-economic populations, including low-income public housing residents, as well as million dollar estates. It is made up of highly paid unionized workers and low-wage workers, and well-established families, as well as recent immigrants.
Given this diversity, the riding of Hamilton Mountain is often a swing riding in federal elections, with some races ending in close ties between candidates.
Just over 97,000 people in the riding listed English as their primary and only language. Other prominent languages in Hamilton Mountain include Arabic, Spanish and Italian.
Provincially, Monique Taylor of the NDP holds the seat representing the riding.
Population: 104,877 (as of 2016 census).
