Lindsay Wong is making her fiction debut with the YA novel My Summer of Love and Misfortune.

Described as a cross between Crazy Rich Asians and Love & Gelato, Wong's novel tells the story of a Chinese American teenager named Iris Wang.

After not getting into college and finding out her boyfriend cheated, Iris is sent to visit family in Beijing for the summer and is swept up in the world of the city's wealthiest residents.

My Summer of Love and Misfortune is due out in May 2020.

The B.C. writer's first book was the memoir The Woo-Woo, published in 2018.

The darkly comedic book described Wong's coming-of-age in a dysfunctional family who blamed their mental health issues on ghosts and demons.

"I think humour is so important, especially for anyone who's writing about serious or traumatic subjects, from a craft point of view, but also as a way to make the reader be able to get through certain passages," Wong told CBC Books in 2018. "If I couldn't make myself laugh how can I write this passage, how can I get readers to read with me and to follow my journey?"

The book was defended by Joe Zee on Canada Reads 2019.

The Woo-Woo was a also finalist for the 2018 Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction.
