Canadian men come up short in 1st Olympic volleyball bid

Canada rallied for a five-set victory over host China on Saturday but it wasn't enough to keep the men's volleyball team's hopes alive to clinch an automatic berth for next summer's Olympics in Tokyo.

A critical kill by Ryan Sclater of Port Coquitlam, B.C., cut Canada's deficit against China to 12-11 in Saturday's fifth and deciding set at an Olympic qualifying tourney in Ningbo, China. Despite a five-set win, the men's squad fell short of an automatic berth for next summer's Olympics.
