Hoa Nguyen, Kei Miller and Paula Meehan will judge the 2020 Griffin Poetry Prize, which annually awards two $65,000 prizes to two works of poetry, one from Canada and one from abroad.

Nguyen is a poet from Toronto. Her most recent book, Violet Energy Ingots, was shortlisted for the 2017 Griffin Poetry Prize. She received the 2019 Pushcart Prize and was nominated for the 2020 Neustadt International Prize for her body of work, which also includes the books As Long As Trees Last and Red Juice.

Kei Miller is a Jamaican writer who lives in London. A prolific poet, novelist and essayist, he won the prestigious Forward Prize for Poetry for his fourth collection, The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion, in 2014. His 2017 novel Augustown was critically acclaimed and received the Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature, the Prix Les Afriques and the Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde.

Paula Meehan is the author of seven poetry collections and lives in Dublin. Her work has received many accolades in the U.K. and Ireland and has been translated into 11 languages. Her books include Geomantic, Mysteries of the Home and Dharmakaya.

The 2020 Griffin Poetry Prize shortlists — three Canadian and four international books — will be revealed on April 7, 2020. The winner ceremony will take place on June 9, 2020 in Toronto.

The 2019 Griffin Poetry Prize winners were Eve Joseph for Quarrels and South Korean poet Kim Hyesoon​​ for Autobiography of Death, translated by Don Mee Choi.
