Liberal Steven MacKinnon(external link) won Gatineau with 52 per cent of the vote in 2019, a feat the incumbent would like to repeat this time around.
In 2019, the former Liberal party president defeated his nearest opponent, the Bloc Québécois, by 17,158 votes.
He first took the western Quebec riding in 2015 from the NDP in what was considered one of the largest surprises of that election.
