Manitoba votes 2019: Notre Dame riding profile

The west central Winnipeg riding of Notre Dame is new following the 2018 riding redistribution, created out of pieces of the Minto, Logan and Tyndall Park ridings.
The riding's northern boundary runs along the CP Rail line, while the southern boundary runs from Notre Dame Avenue along Maryland Street, Sargent Avenue and Erin Street. It's bounded to the east by Isabel Street and to the west by Brookside Boulevard.
The riding includes the neighbourhoods of Brooklands, Weston, Centennial and Sargent Park.
Its population is 22,880, according to the province's 2018 riding profile(external link) (compiled from the 2016 census).
The median age of the riding is slightly below the overall provincial median, at 34.7 in Notre Dame compared to 38.3 provincewide, according to the 2018 riding profile(external link) and the 2016 census(external link). The census found the median household income in the area is $51,041.
More facts about Notre Dame:
  • Fourteen per cent of residents reported they speak Tagalog most often at home, according to the province's 2018 profile.(external link)
  • More than 42 per cent of residents identified as immigrants in the 2016 census, the profile says.
  • More than 80 per cent of immigrants said their country of origin is in Asia or the Middle East, the profile says.
  • Just over half of the residents identified as visible minorities, the profile says.

The nominated candidates for the 2019 election are:
  • Malaya Marcelino (NDP).
  • Donovan Martin (Liberal).
  • Marsha Street (Progressive Conservative).
  • Andrew Taylor (Communist Party).
  • MJ Willard (Green Party).
