Dennis Bock, Michael Kaan and Suzette Mayr will judge the 2019 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize.

The $50,000 annual prize recognizes the best in Canadian fiction.

Dennis Bock is a Toronto-based writer, editor and lecturer. His first novel, The Ash Garden, was shortlisted for the Amazon Canada First Novel Award (then the Books in Canada First Novel Award), the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the International DUBLIN Literary Award. His 2013 novel Going Home Again was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Michael Kaan's debut novel, The Water Beetles, was inspired by his father's own experience as a child in Hong Kong during the Second World War. It was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction and won the Amazon Canada First Novel Award. Kaan, who works in health research, lives in Winnipeg.

Suzette Mayr is the author of five novels, including Monoceros and Dr. Edith Vane and the Hares of Crawley Hall. Monoceros was longlisted for the Scotaibank Giller Prize and won the ReLit Award in 2011. Mayr teaches creative writing at the University of Calgary.

The shortlist will be announced on Sept. 24, 2019.

The winner will be announced at the Writers' Trust Awards ceremony in Toronto on Nov. 5.

Kathy Page won the prize in 2018 for her novel Dear Evelyn.

Other past winners include David Chariandy for Brother, André Alexis for Fifteen Dogs and Miriam Toews for All My Puny Sorrows.
