Manitoba votes 2019: Waverley riding profile

The southwest Winnipeg riding of Waverley is new, created in the 2018 riding redistribution from pieces of St. Norbert, Fort Whyte and Fort Richmond ridings.
The riding runs between Bishop Grandin Boulevard and city limits in the north, and the Perimeter Highway in the south. It's bounded by city limits to the west, and Pembina Highway, Bison Drive and Waverley Street in the east.
The riding includes the neighbourhoods of Waverley Heights, Waverley West and Bridgwater.
Its population is 20,825, according to the province's 2018 riding profile(external link) (compiled from the 2016 census).
The median age of the riding is significantly younger than the overall provincial median, at 31.2 compared to 38.3 provincewide, according to the 2018 riding profile(external link) and the 2016 census(external link). The census found the median household income in the area is $78,501.

  • The riding has fewer adults 65 years of age and older than the province in general (6.9 per cent compared to 15.6 per cent), according to the province's 2018 profile(external link) and the 2016 census.(external link)
  • Nearly 29 per cent of residents said they speak a language other than English or French most often at home, the profile says.
  • Among those residents, the leading language group is Mandarin (8.2 per cent of all residents) followed by Punjabi (3.9 per cent of all residents) and Cantonese (2.8 per cent of all residents).

  • Jon Reyes (Progressive Conservative).
  • Dashi Zargani (NDP).
