The core-area Winnipeg riding of Fort Rouge has been on the books in its modern form since 1999, but its territory has shifted eastward since the last provincial election.
In the latest boundary changes, the riding gained a portion of the riding of Fort Garry (previously called Fort Garry-Riverview) to the southwest, but lost a portion of its own territory to the River Heights riding to its west.
The updated riding is bounded by the Assiniboine River in the north. The Red River makes up most of its eastern and southern boundaries, along with Riverdale Street and Jubilee Avenue. The western boundary runs from Pembina Highway along Corydon Avenue, Arbuthnot Street, Grosvenor Avenue and Wellington Crescent.
The riding includes the neighbourhoods of Riverview, Osborne Village and Roslyn.
Its population is 21,395, according to the province's 2018 riding profile (compiled from the 2016 census).
The median age of the riding is slightly younger than the overall provincial median, at 36.8 compared to 38.3 provincewide, according to the 2018 riding profile and the 2016 census. The census found the median household income in the area is $56,828.
More facts about Fort Rouge:
- The riding has fewer children 14 years of age and younger than the province in general (9.5 per cent compared to 19 per cent), according to the province's 2018 profile and the 2016 census.
- Just over 15 per cent of residents identified as visible minorities, the profile says.
- Close to 60 per cent of residents reported they rent their homes.
