The southeastern Manitoba riding of Dawson Trail was created in 2008, encompassing nearly all of the next-door riding of La Verendyre, which held onto its central portion as a stand-alone riding.
The riding is bounded to the southeast by the rural municipality of La Broquerie and to the southwest by the rural municipality of Hanover. Its northernmost point is just north of Sapton, and it westernmost point is just west of Prairie Grove. Its eastern boundary is just east of Nourse.
The riding includes the communities of Ste. Anne, Lorette, Landmark, Grande Pointe and Giroux, as well as Hazelridge, Anola and Sapton. It no longer includes St. Adolphe or Île-des-Chênes, which are now part of Springfield-Ritchot.
Its population is 23,230, according to the province's 2018 riding profile(external link) (compiled from the 2016 census). Its population has been growing in recent years(external link), driving changes to the riding's boundaries in the 2018 redistribution.
The median age of the riding is roughly on par with the overall provincial median, at 37.1 in Dawson Trail compared to 38.3 provincewide, according to the 2018 riding profile(external link) and the 2016 census(external link). The census found the median household income in the area is $84,777.
