The RCMP are investigating after a gun safe was stolen from a home in Nova Scotia's&nbsp;Colchester County.

Police say they were called Saturday to the home on&nbsp;Lornevale&nbsp;Road in Great Village after someone had smashed the patio door.

In 2017 and 2018 police across the province seized more than 2,000 guns. Some are turned into police, but many are also seized from criminals arrested for crimes ranging from robbery to weapons offences.

The federal government announced a $11.9 million dollar investment in addressing crime related to guns and gangs.

More than 250 handguns were seized by police in Nova Scotia in 2017 and 2018, according to data from the RCMP.

The Mounties say a safe containing six restricted handguns and two rifles were taken from the home. Nothing else was disturbed.

Police are asking anyone with information on the missing guns to contact them.

Windows smashed, ticket issued as parking job interferes with firefighters

Halifax firefighters had to break a car's windows to gain access to a hydrant, and then thread a hose across the back seats, after fire broke out in a strip mall in the city's south end.

Halifax Fire says the hose was running through the car for about four hours.
