Frequent Atlanta and Barry director Hiro Murai will be directing the series adaptation of Emily St. John Mandel's novel Station Eleven for WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service.

Patrick Somerville, creator of Maniac for Netflix, is adapting the 10-episode series.

St. John Mandel's novel was published in 2014. It takes place on an Earth undone by disease, following the interconnected lives of several characters — actors, artists and those closest to them — before and after the plague.

One travels the wasteland performing Shakespearean plays with a troupe, while another attempts to build community at an abandoned airport and another amasses followers for a dangerous cause.

St. John Mandel is from B.C., but now lives in New York.

Station Eleven was nominated for the National Book Awards and PEN/Faulkner Award.

Her next book, The Glass Hotel, is due out in February 2020.

Murai is also the director of Childish Gambino's viral music video This is America and Amazon film Guava Island with Rihanna.
