Westbound traffic on Route 2 north of Summerside will not be able turn left into the city on Friday at Granville Street.

Drivers in the western P.E.I. city ran into some long traffic lineups Wednesday at the intersection, where the province is putting in&nbsp;a roundabout .

Expect delays: Summerside roundabout construction underway

The P.E.I. Department of Transportation has started work on the roundabout at the intersection of Route 2 and Granville Street at the north end of Summerside.

The roundabout is expected to significantly improve traffic flow at the intersection.

The Department of Transportation said flaggers are trying to move traffic through as efficiently as possible.

Traffic is being routed around the construction site on temporary roads. The department said traffic should be moving a bit better on Thursday.

Very disappointing to see the lack of planning that went into road work in Summerside. Both ends of town jammed up for miles with road work and no way out . Not to mention a round about we don’t need . SMH.

For Friday only, only emergency vehicles will be allowed to make left turns at the construction site. Detour signs will be in place at the Travellers Rest roundabout.

The work is expected to be complete by the end of August.

21 months in jail for man who beat up, confined teen girl

A man who beat up a young teenage girl and threatened to kill her if she left his house, has been sentenced to 21 months in jail. It happened in December in Kings County.
