Swan placed on administrative leave

The Southern Chiefs Organization has placed Grand Chief Margaret Swan on administrative leave pending the final outcome of her court case.
Swan pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000 last week. Police say she misappropriated cheques worth $61,000 from the Lake Manitoba First Nation while she was the band's chief.
Chris Henderson, director of communications for the Southern Chiefs Organization, says the group has been fielding quite a few calls from First Nations citizens and leadership since Swan entered her guilty plea.
"I think people want to know exactly what the facts are and what the process is in terms of what will happen next to Miss Margaret Swan in terms of her role as Grand Chief of the Southern Chiefs Organization," he says.
Henderson says following the two months of paid leave, the organization will review Swan's tenure as grand chief.
Swan is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
