Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta said it's believed multiple shots were fired in death of Jordan Moore
Calgary police say two people detained in the death of a man found shot in a northwest alley have been released but remain suspects.
Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta with the homicide unit said the two are "involved in a criminal lifestyle and connected to the drug trade."
He said police do not know if there was any connection between the suspects and the victim, 34-year-old Jordan Moore.
Moore was found shot in an alley behind the 100-block of 15th St. N.W. around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to hospital and later died.
Victim lived in community
Moore's family says he was out for a typical evening walk.
"Though details are limited due to the ongoing police investigation, what we have been advised of is that while on his walk, Jordan saw an altercation and intervene[d] on behalf of someone in need," his brother, Jason Moore, said in a statement to CBC News Wednesday.
Police would not confirm or deny that narrative, saying the investigation is ongoing, but Schiavetta did say they understand Moore was an avid walker and that he lived in the community.
Multiple shots reported
Schiavetta said it's believed an altercation took place some time between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Monday when shots were fired.
"In speaking to people who live in that community, we have reports of multiple gunshots," he said.
Police have executed three search warrants on homes in southwest Calgary in the 1000-block of 10th St. S.W., the 1100-block of 12th Avenue S.W. and Sierra Morena Mews S.W.
There are additional warrants to search vehicles and electronic devices.
Schiavetta said search and rescue is helping police search a wooded area near Westhills for evidence that might have been discarded there.
