Five books comprise the shortlist for the 2018 Scotiabank Giller Prize, a $100,000 literary award given to the year's best work of Canadian fiction. They are:
- Washington Black by Esi Edugyan
- French Exit by Patrick deWitt
- Motherhood by Sheila Heti
- An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim
- Songs for the Cold of Heart by Eric Dupont, translated by Peter McCambridge
In the video above, the writers gathered in Calgary and took the CBC Books Magic 8 Q&A — a series where authors ask each other questions. In this special edition, we've pulled questions asked by former Giller Prize winners.
The 2018 Scotiabank Giller Prize winner will be announced on Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 on CBC-TV. The one-hour broadcast will be hosted by Rick Mercer and begins at 8 p.m. local time (12:30 a.m. AT/1:00 a.m. NT). You can also watch it online at CBC Books starting at 8:00 p.m. ET or listen to it on CBC Radio One with hosts Shelagh Rogers and Jael Richardson.
