Municipal elections are right around the corner for cities, towns and other municipalities across P.E.I.

Four of those elections will be administered by Elections P.E.I. — in Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall.

Municipal politics may not be glamorous but local councils have huge responsiblities, from setting tax rates to policing. Here's a quick primer before you vote Nov. 5.

The number of registered voters has grown in Stratford over the last five municipal elections, from roughly 4,300 in the 2000 election to over 6,000 in 2014.

What will the elections look like in one of P.E.I.'s newest towns?

The voting boundaries have been set and preparations are well in hand for residents of the newly formed town of Three Rivers to elect 12 councillors and a mayor on Nov. 5.

P.E.I. communities join forces to meet new elections requirements

Elections PEI urging voters to register ahead of November municipal elections

Elections PEI is reminding Islanders to make sure they're registered to vote ahead of the upcoming municipal elections on Nov. 5.

CBC News has learned that Elections PEI has begun providing, upon request, what it calls “real-time” updates to registered parties indicating which voters had cast a ballot on polling days.

If you're within the four larger municipalities, Summerside, Cornwall, Charlottetown or Stratford, and you're registered to vote, you'll receive a voter card in the mail to take to the polling station with you.

Elections P.E.I. will administer the elections in Cornwall, Charlottetown, Stratford and Summerside.
