An earthquake with a magnitude&nbsp;of 5.9&nbsp;was recorded near the southern Indonesian island of&nbsp;Flores, the U.S. Geological Survey said, four days&nbsp;after a devastating quake on Sulawesi island killed at least 844&nbsp;people.

The quake hit about 250 kilometres southwest of&nbsp;Ende on Flores. There were no immediate tsunami alerts or reports of&nbsp;casualties or damage.

Indonesian authorities are scrambling to get aid and rescue equipment into quake-hit Sulawesi island and are starting to bury some of the more than 800 dead, while shaken survivors flee their ruined homes in search of food and shelter.

Indonesia says quakes that killed more than 500 aren't national emergency

Indonesia's disaster agency says earthquakes that killed more than 500 people on the island of Lombok in the past month and caused half a billion dollars in damage don't rise to the level of a national emergency.
