Calgary police have charged an officer who is accused of domestic assault on the weekend while off-duty .
Police said the Calgary Police Service member was arrested Saturday by RCMP in a neighbouring municipality and charged with one count of assault after the alleged domestic incident.
The officer, who has been with CPS for 22 years, has been relieved from duty with pay. His status will be reviewed over the next 30 days.
Police said that to protect the victim's privacy, the accused's name will not be released, but that they were releasing information about the incident in the interest of public transparency.
CPS said the officer is afforded the same right to a fair trial as a member of the public and that the service is offering support to the officer throughout the court process.
