During bread week, the bakers kneaded to rise to the occasion and prove themselves in a series of tough challenges (for those of you keeping score at home, that was three baking puns in one sentence. You're welcome.).

Jokes aside, judges Bruno Feldeisen and Rochelle Adonis were once again faced with tough decisions — as multiple bakers put out top-notch loaves, buns and flatbreads, as well as showstopping sandwich cakes.

One baker managed to distinguish themselves as the competition's upper crust, winning Star Baker. Sadly, as always, another baker had to go home.

As usual, the technical challenge threw the bakers for a loop. Faced with a sparse, stripped down set of instructions, the humble hot cross bun became a sort of insurmountable challenge for the bakers. Some of them managed to improvise their way to bakery-quality buns, while others fell well short of the mark.

The signature bake saw the bakers making quick bread — bread that uses something other than yeast to make it rise — and an accompanying spread. While there were no shortages of innovative takes on quick bread, it was Sadiya who won the day. Her quick bread take on naan, accompanied by a tomato chutney, blew the judges away. That, combined with a showstopper sandwich cake that was inspired by her childhood in Bahrain, won her this week's Star Baker crown.

Sachin won an honourable mention with his performance this week. The judges this were particularly impressed with his muffuletta sandwich cake.
