A Saskatoon woman testified in court Wednesday that she overcame her fear and doubts about reporting a sexual assault after her alleged attacker was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault in 2016.
Mark Donlevy is facing one count of sexual assault in the current proceedings, which are happening at Court of Queen's Bench in Saskatoon. He will face the other 11 charges at a later date.
The woman alleged Wednesday that she was sexually assaulted by Donlevy after meeting him through an online dating site in 2004.
Donlevy's trial is happening at Court of Queen's Bench.
"I wasn't out to meet Mark to have sex with Mark," she testified. "I was looking for friendship."
The woman cannot be named because she is a victim of sexual assault.
She testified that she had met Donlevy through an online dating site and agreed to meet him for coffee so that she could get a better sense of him.
"He gained my trust very easily, he said that he was a firefighter," she said.
They had coffee and talked and then went to a drive-in, she said, where Donlevy tried to kiss her during the movie but she rebuffed his advances.
"I made it well known I wasn't giving him mixed signals," she said.

They later went to a club and danced until she began to feel sick, she said. Donlevy drove her to a house on Saskatchewan Crescent which he claimed was his. She said that once inside, she laid on a couch until he convinced her she would be comfortable in a bed. She agreed and went upstairs.
The woman testified that she laid down and Donlevy joined her, still trying to kiss her. She said that she resisted and then it escalated to Donlevy forcing her to perform oral sex on him.
Then they had non-consensual intercourse, she said.
"I told him I didn't want this, I was scared and crying. He wasn't hearing me, he wasn't stopping," she said.
Afterwards, she said he drove her home and taunted her by calling her a "tease" and a "prude."
"I just felt grateful to be alive," she said.
The woman said she did not report the alleged assault until years later because she feared no one would believe her.
The trial continues Thursday.
