Incumbent Tim Tierney was first elected to council in 2010. He took the riding in 2014 with 82 per cent of the vote against four other candidates.
It looked as though Tierney might become the only councillor this election to win by acclamation, until Michael Schurter, a real-estate broker, filed his nomination papers hours before the deadline.
What happened in those final hours is now the subject of an investigation by the OPP after Schurter said Tierney called him just before that deadline.
Schurter didn't want to comment on what was discussed during that call.
Tierney is stepping back from his position on the Ottawa Police Services Board while the investigation unfolds.

Beacon Hill-Cyrville is made up of older neighbourhoods within the Greenbelt. The light-rail track will end at Blair Road when it opens in the coming months, and already there are rental towers being built next to the station and more commercial development nearby. Both candidates say the ward's roads will be their top priority this campaign.
So did we.
CBC Ottawa created a questionnaire and sent it to each of the registered candidates to fill out.
You can read the responses below. Some candidates did not respond to the questionnaire.
Questionnaires are posted as they were submitted.
