The Current's Advanced Doc Maker Program

The Current's Advanced Doc Maker Program supports the development of experienced audio journalists as they produce a feature-length documentary for CBC Radio's flagship current affairs program, The Current.
The Program is designed for audio producers who have original, journalistic tales to tell — with strong narratives.
The Program provides journalists with the following:
- For CBC staff: a paid 3-5 week secondment from your primary assignment (contingent on supervisor's approval)
- For non-CBC staff: a freelance contract, based on standard CMG rates and freelance rates, that includes built-in time for experimentation and development of digital materials.
- Up to $1,500 in travel expenses
- Production support and technical resources (ie. transcription services, recording equipment, sound design, etc)
- Supplementary time and resources to produce a robust digital iteration of your audio documentary.
Criteria
- Applicants must have professional experience in audio storytelling / doc making. Novice producers should not apply.
- Experienced audio freelancers and CBC producers are eligible.
- Applicants must reside in Canada, or have Canadian citizenship.
- Applicants who work at CBC must have the endorsement of their current manager.
- Applications will be accepted until November 20, 2021.
