Winnipeg police have laid an attempted murder charge&nbsp;in connection with a shooting in the St. John's neighbourhood last month.

The male victim was shot in the upper body on Boyd Avenue near Main Street on the morning of&nbsp;July 16.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Police believe the victim had been shot by an acquaintance who fled on foot.

A 46-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested July 24.

As well as the attempted murder charge,&nbsp;he&nbsp;is facing a long list of firearm-related charges.

St. Boniface Hospital to reopen operating rooms closed earlier this week

St. Boniface Hospital says the operating rooms it was forced to close this week because of problems with its ventilation system will be back in operation after the long weekend.

The majority of the 14 operating rooms at St. Boniface Hospital are closed due to a malfunction in the hospital's air handling system. Repairs are scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.

St. Boniface closed nine of its 14 operating rooms Wednesday after the hospital's air handling system malfunctioned. They're expected to be reopened by Tuesday, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says. 

City unveils package of short-term measures to reduce panhandling
