Multiple people are displaced, police have confirmed
Part of a building collapsed on Wellington Street W. near Rosemount Avenue Tuesday evening, closing the street for what officials estimate will be nearly two days.
No one was injured, police said.
One person living in the building, as well as five women, two men and a pet cat from the adjoining properties, have been displaced.
They are being provided temporary housing, according to police.
The structure is a three-storey heritage building constructed in 1874, according to Ottawa Fire Services.
Police are asking commuters to avoid the area because the structure remains unstable. City staff are trying to determine if the building can be salvaged.
Wellington Street W. is expected to be closed between Sherbrooke and Carruthers avenues until midday Thursday. It will be open to local traffic only from east of Parkdale Avenue to Carruthers.
