Jimmy 'Duck' Holmes brings the Bentonia blues to CBC Musical Nooners July 12

Bentonia blues player from Mississippi plays for free on the CBC Stage
The owner of the oldest juke joint in Mississippi, Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, is set to tug at heartstrings at the CBC Musical Nooners stage on Thursday, July 12.
The American musician is known as one of the last and greatest bluesmen of the Bentonia School, a style of guitar-playing from Bentonia, Miss.
The CBC Musical Nooners are free, live music concerts that happen every weekday from noon to 1 p.m. on the CBC Vancouver outdoor stage at 700 Hamilton St.
Holmes, who learned how to play the Bentonian blues by the style's creator, Henry Stuckey, produces a unique, regional blues tone with rhythmic and hypnotic tunes. He's also the organizer of one of Mississippi's longest-running festivals, the Bentonia Blues Festival.
Holmes's recording career started with the release of Devil's Blues in 1991. His second album, Done Got Tired of Tryin, earned a spot in the top 10 blues albums of 2007 by WXPN and World Cafe.
He was also nominated for a Blues Music Award for acoustic album of the year.
For his CBC Musical Nooners performance, Holmes will be joined by two other blues musicians, Robert Connely Farr and Mike Munson, who are also playing in the Bentonia style.
Thursday's concert is presented in partnership with the Vancouver Folk Music Festival.
