46,000-square-foot complex has first VIP auditoriums in Calgary
A movie theatre complex in the southeast Calgary community of Seton that was badly damaged in a fire last fall is set to open Wednesday.
The fire happened in November just weeks before the Cineplex Cinemas Seton and VIP was scheduled to open.
The 46,000-square-foot theatre complex on Seton Boulevard near Deerfoot Trail features all recliner seating, D-Box motion seats — chairs that are programmed to subtly move to mimic the action in a film — and larger-screen UltraAVX audio-visual technology, Cineplex said in a release.
Seven of the auditoriums will open on Wednesday while the four VIP cinemas and a licensed lounge are set to open next month.
The Cineplex Cinemas Seton will be the first in Calgary to feature the adult-only VIP auditoriums, where moviegoers can have alcoholic beverages during the show and be served at their seats from an expanded menu, Cineplex says.
"We are incredibly thankful for the patience of our partners, staff and Calgary movie-lovers as we worked tirelessly to get this theatre open and, of course, thankful for the Calgary Fire Department," said Cineplex CEO Ellis Jacob in a news release.
"We are looking forward to hosting a VIP-inspired evening for all the firefighters who helped us last year when we open the VIP Cinemas later this summer."
There were no injuries in the fire.
