Incumbents lining up to seek another term in October municipal vote

Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain, Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara and Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope all plan to seek re-election in the October municipal election, CBC News has learned. This is the first day people who are interested in running for municipal politics can declare their intentions formally. Municipal offices across Ontario are accepting nomination papers starting today.

Robert Salvatore Powers filed his nomination papers Wednesday to become Chatham-Kent's mayor&nbsp;— a decision he has reflected on "long time."

"If it takes folding tables in the back of a pickup truck, I want you to know that I am going to make it happen. I am going to bring your municipal government to your front door," said Powers, who currently works as a slot technician at Gateway Casinos in Dresden.

Residents have until July 27 to file their nomination papers. The municipal election takes place Oct.&nbsp;22.
