A Calgary man faces numerous charges including attempted murder after what police call a random attack in the city's northeast early Monday.
Police responded to the 1300 block of Falconridge Drive N.E. just after 5 a.m. Monday after a woman reported a man was trying to get into her home.
"A few minutes later, the man forced his way through the front door and the woman and her mother fled the residence. The suspect entered the house and located a 63-year-old man, who had been sleeping, and began assaulting him," police said in a release Wednesday.
The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, which has since been upgraded to stable.
Police said the offender and victims were not known to each other and that this was a random attack. Investigators say the motive is unknown.
Emmanuel Sundae Iyoho of Calgary was taken into custody at the scene. The 37-year-old, now charged with attempted murder, break and enter and assault with a weapon, is set to appear in a Calgary courtroom later Wednesday.
