Justice for Our Stolen Children camp hosts 'Pre-Canada' celebration

A celebration of “pre-Canada” is happening in front of the Saskatchewan legislature today, with a trespassers’ powwow and a concert among the day’s activities, according to a Justice for Our Stolen Children camp supporter.

The Justice for Our Stolen Children camp has grown to include more teepees, standing at the grounds across from the legislature. On Saturday, the camp will host a pre-Canada celebration at the site.

Justice camp representatives to meet with province after Canada Day

Protestors at the Justice for our Stolen Children camp say they will meet with the government of Saskatchewan on July 2.

There are now six teepees standing at the Justice for Our Stolen Children camp at Wascana Park in Regina.

"Canada is the displacement of Indigenous people, so for us, we're celebrating pre-Canada," camp supporter&nbsp;Robyn Pitawanakwat had explained in the lead-up to Saturday's festivities.&nbsp;"It's a day for us to rejoice."

The event featured a trespassers' powwow, while Pitawanakwat said she was surprised by an addition of another teepee to join the nine others that were previously standing at the site, in front of the Saskatchewan Legislature. The latest teepee was a show of support from Carry the Kettle and Pasqua First Nations, she said.&nbsp;

There are now nine teepees erected on the front lawn of the Regina Legislative Building.

More Teepees are now set up in Wascana Park, bringing the total number of  teepees to nine as of Friday.

Nine teepees were set up in the camp as of Friday, as preparations were made for the Trespassers Pow-wow: A Pre- Canada Day celebration.

Stolen Camp 

The camp&nbsp;started shortly after the February acquittals of Gerald Stanley and Raymond&nbsp;Cormier&nbsp;in&nbsp; the Colten&nbsp;Boushie&nbsp;and Tina&nbsp;Fontaine&nbsp;murder trials. Camp founders said the intention was to draw attention to Indigenous lives lost or affected due to factors like violence, foster care or addiction.
