The League of Canadian Poets announced the winners of their five prizes, which recognize established and rising writers for their work and their contribution to the poetry community in Canada.

Marilyn Dumont received the Life Membership Award, which is given annually to poets who have made a significant contribution to poetry in Canada. Dumont is as poet of Cree/Métis descent. Her works include A Really Good Brown Girl, Green Girl Dreams Mountains and The Pemmican Eaters.

Past winners include Lorna Crozier, Patrick Lane, Margaret Atwood and P.K. Pagr.

Emily Nilsen won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award for her debut poetry collection Otolith. The $2,000 recognizes a new book of poetry by an emerging Canadian writer. Nilsen's poem Meanwhile was a finalist for the CBC Poetry Prize in 2015.

Lesley Belleau won the $2,000 Pat Lowther Memorial Award, which recognizes a book of poetry written by a female Canadian poet, for her collection, Indianland.

Dwayne Morgan received the Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret Award, which is given to a Canadian spoken word artist who has made a contribution to the development of spoken word in Canada, either through their own work or by contributing to the community.

Karen Enns received the Raymond Souster Award for her collection Cloud Physics. The $2,000 prize is given annually to a book of poetry published by a member of the League of Canadian poets.

The University of Regina Press was presented with the Honorary Membership Award for its contributions to the art of poetry.

The prizes were handed out on June 16, 2018, at a gala in Toronto during the Canadian Writers' Summit.
